Start An Annual Dad Plan This Year
June 14, 2019
Your kids are going to grow up really, really, fast. Although some days may seem longer than others, their childhood truly goes by in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately, we can’t stop time but what we can do is be proactive about the experiences we want to have with our kids. An effective approach to not missing valuable moments is creating a Before-They-Grow-Up-List. This list is pretty self explanatory. Create a list of things you want to do/experience together with your kids before they turn 18.
You may already have a rough draft of one in your mind already. We recommend that you make a separate list for each child and you can also make a list for the whole family to do as well. Another recommendation is to make a new one every year, whether it being every January 1st or on their birthday. Every age has such different milestones to embrace so the more age specific list, the better because even if you have a newborn you can still bond by simply taking a nap together. There is so much to do together regardless of your kids age.
It is crazy that a period of your life will come and soon be gone and you can never have it back again. Of course it is best to start a Before-They-Grow-Up-List as early as possible but even if your kid is 11 years old, it’s not too late to implement a new bonding tradition. If you did miss opportunities to embrace their childhood, as many of us have, what matters if that you’re making a conscious effort TODAY to create extraordinary moments together. It feels good just having the list, knowing that the experiences you want to have together are prioritized.
