Start An Annual Dad Plan This Year
March 22, 2019
“Dad Visioning” is all about thinking about the types of kids you want to raise and writing down what you hope to help them be like at a future point in time. Every child is so incredibly different, and you can tell so much about them even in their first year of life. It’s never too early or too late to think about the types of kids you want to raise as well as the challenges or imperfections you want to help them overcome. Starting the habit of Dad Visioning can have a profound effect on how you parent each of your kids.
Dad Visioning also helps you formulate and focus on the wisdom and ideals you want to teach that child throughout the next period of their life. We recommend doing your “Dad Visioning” based on milestones and to do one separately for each of your kids. Write your visions as if it were the day of that milestone, such as if your child is not in kindergarten yet, write your Dad Vision as if it was the first day of kindergarten or if your child is in middle school, write it as it was the first day of school for them.
Here are a few examples:
* If your child is not in kindergarten yet, writing your Dad Vision as if it was the first day of kindergarten.
* If your child is in grades 1-5, writing your Dad vision as if it was the first day of middle school.
* If your child is already in middle school, writing your Dad vision as if it was the first day of high school.
* If your child is already in high school, writing your Dad vision as if it was their first day of college.
It is also recommend re-reading your current Dad Vision for each of your kids on the first day of school each year just to remind yourself of the key things you’re trying to impart to each of them at that stage of life. You can even make slight adjustments or additions to it. Most Dads don’t show their Dad Visions to their kids – consider it your private notes for how you’re trying to help them develop, but it’s really up to you. Dad Visioning can be the single most important thing you do in your attempt to raise great kids. See how the simple act of Dad Visioning for each of your kids can have an incredible impact.
